Tomorrow is autumn

today

the small dirty looking tavern where it always smells of grilled fish and garlic

and where all the lazy seminude bodies coming from the beach

go to dinner and risk having the marinated seabass with a glass of the house wine

or calamari rings and a cold beer

will only stay open til midnight

some hipsters have Earth, Wind and Fire on their playlist

because tomorrow is September

already

and school will start on the 15th

flamingos rest in different shades of red and salmon pink

– the colors of the afternoon –

because today it’s the last afternoon of summer

“Children, come out of the water, it’s late!”

in gardens and backyards grapes are almost ripe

and tomorrow is autumn

a short laughter at a small table for two on the beach and then silence again

the sound of the waves in the background

somewhat green

melancholic

someone brought a guitar and they’re struggling to find the right chords  for “The thrill has gone”

sudden movement in a kaki tent and then nothing

while we’re walking on the shore in silence

looking for shells and strange shapes left in the sand

our bodies are planning to stay longer

without us

much too old to understand their constant craving for laziness and summer

and cold energy drinks

here where they put wet towels to dry

let’s wait until the solitary fisherman‘s shape perfectly alignes itself

with the sun’s reflexion on the water

at sunset

in the distance

and let go of summer

as old mem’ries rush to mind

in seclusion, a last embrace is shared between a man and a woman

oblivious to everything else around them

as their feet are sinking in dead algae

the moon rises

and we walk past them

she has to leave today, while it’s still August

the storm is coming

flamingos rest in different shades of red and salmon pink – the colors of the afternoon –

what do flamingos know about love?

I’ve never felt closer to you in silence

promiss me you’ll still bring me here in September

promiss me there will be another summer

what do we know about love?
